Course Objective

Students should be able to:

  • 1(a) recall what waves transfer and do not transfer
  • (b) describe a wave
  • (c) distinguish between transverse waves and longitudinal waves with examples.
  • 2(a) describe wave parameters using definitions and units.
  • 3 (a) recall the two equations for calculating wave speed
  • (b) use these equations to calculate wave speed in different scenarios.
  • 4 (a) explain what happens during refraction of waves
  • (b) state where refraction occurs
  • (c) draw and label diagrams showing refraction.
  • (d) explain how the change in the speed of a wave changes its direction.
